Photo reblogged from Queer Secrets with 78 notes

queersecrets:

Image: photo of Emmy Rossum posed on a beach, wearing a midriff-bearing shirt and swimsuit bottoms, drinking a bottle of coke. (Image chosen for the sexualisation of the pose, for the clothing and hairless body and perfect head-hair and makeup and objectification, not the actress herself.)
Text: I don’t like being called a woman, and I don’t know if it’s because I’m not a woman.. or because I just don’t like what my society expects out of women.
(Does it even matter?)

I have nothing against being called a woman. I do have a lot against being treated a certain way because of my womanhood. I do have a lot against misogyny. And misogyny can make you hate being called a woman even if you identify as one, that’s - unfortunately - very common. I’ve seen people say they tried to identify as something else solely to stop being a woman, and lately realize they were doing that because of internalized misogyny.
(editing because I misread the secret) Also I don’t think people should be telling them “oh so you must be genderqueer”. Stop telling people they’re genderqueer or genderfuck or genderbenders everytime they say something about gender stereotypes. It’s not that simple!
